Get to Know Have Drone Will Travel

Veteran owned, FAA-licensed, and fully insured — based in Jackson County, Missouri, serving Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas.

Our Company

We bring a technical approach to drone work, using dedicated aircraft and processing software to capture and process imagery into high-resolution, accurately measurable mapping and media.

Drone work is all we do. Other companies may offer it as an add-on to another service, but we fly full time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is photogrammetry?

Photogrammetry is the process of obtaining measurable, reliable information about physical objects through photography. In aerial photogrammetry, a drone captures a large number of overlapping photos of an area, which are then stitched together into a high-resolution two- or three-dimensional image called an orthomosaic map.

How is orthomosaic mapping different from standard aerial photography?

A standard aerial photo is taken from a single viewpoint, which distorts angles and doesn’t allow for accurate measurement, and photos taken at different times or altitudes don’t line up well for comparison. An orthomosaic is built from a pre-programmed flight plan flown at a consistent low altitude, capturing many overlapping, GPS-tagged photos that are processed into a distortion-free, top-down map with a high degree of relative accuracy — accurate enough to measure between objects, and detailed enough to reach roughly half an inch to one inch per pixel.

What is the difference between relative accuracy and absolute accuracy?

Relative accuracy means objects in the map are accurately positioned and measurable relative to each other, based on the drone’s onboard GPS. Absolute accuracy corrects the map’s position relative to the Earth itself, using ground control points placed and surveyed on-site — typically only needed for projects with strict positional requirements.

What software do you use for mapping and processing?

Mapping and orthomosaic processing is currently done in WebODM, with QGIS for mapping and GIS support. DroneDeploy remains available and can be reactivated if a client specifically requires it. Photo and video editing is done in DaVinci Resolve, GIMP, and Darktable.

Can you photograph in near-infrared or LIDAR?

No — our equipment is limited to visible-spectrum photography.

Do you offer agricultural drone services?

Yes. We provide rural land and elevation mapping, drainage pattern mapping, storm-damage documentation using post-storm orthomosaics, and automated stand counts generated from mapping software. We do not offer crop-health or NDVI analysis, since that requires multispectral equipment we don’t currently operate.

Do you provide documentation for insurance claims?

Yes. We provide aerial before-and-after imagery for property, land, and storm-damage claims, for adjusters, agents, or policyholders. This is documentation only — we do not make claim determinations or provide insurance adjustments.

Do you offer drone training or consulting?

Yes. We offer Part 107 exam prep for people pursuing their remote pilot certificate, and consulting for organizations — contractors, rural emergency services, and others — building their own in-house drone program. If you’re not sure where to start, reach out and we’ll talk through it.

Where do you provide drone services?

We’re based in Jackson County, Missouri, and serve Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas. Locations outside the local area are possible but may require extra time to obtain the licensing needed to operate there.

Do you process images and video for real estate listings?

Yes. Real estate work is priced on an hourly, menu-style basis rather than fixed packages — reach out with what you need (photos, video, floorplans, a 360° walkthrough) and we’ll put together a quote.

The company is called "Have Drone Will Travel." Do you actually travel?

I travel fairly often and bring a drone when I can. Traveling specifically for a contract is possible, but travel, per diem, lodging, and licensing add cost — for very large projects, it can still make sense.

Can you cover events like weddings?

We take on a small number of events each year, generally memorial, remembrance, and nonprofit or community events. We do not cover weddings, gender reveals, birthdays, or other personal celebrations.
